ILHÉUS, BAHIA
Ilhéus is full of history and Brazilianness. It has approximately 100 km of beaches, the largest stretch of coastline in the entire state of Bahia, along a strip of preserved Atlantic Forest. With a humid tropical climate, with an annual average temperature of around 25 ° C, the city is located in a privileged location, cut out by a lot of water and a charming aerial view. The architecture of the municipality refers to the period of Portuguese colonization, and among the buildings there are several tourist spots in the city: São Jorge church, Paranaguá Palace, Ilhéus Cathedral and the Municipal Theater. In addition, Ilhéus has the historic cocoa farms, which have made their progress. However, the city is even remembered for its relationship with the writer Jorge Amado, author of famous works such as Gabriela, Cravo e Canela and Dona Flor and their two husbands. There are tourist spots that honor the writer, such as the Casa de Cultura Jorge Amado, where it is possible to experience his life and work, and the Bataclan mansion, today a restaurant, where local events also take place.

In the 18th century, cocoa seedlings were sent from the Amazon to be planted in the region, and these adapted so well to the climatic conditions that the cultivation of cocoa became the greatest culture and wealth that the region had ever seen. The city has become a place of luxury, pleasure and ostentation, due to the famous cabarets, society clubs, casinos and the lifestyle of cocoa farmers. This lifestyle, which lasted until the decline of the cocoa culture, already in the 20th century, generated an endless number of stories, filled with greed, love and power struggles, forming a fertile ground for the novels of Adonias Filho and Jorge Beloved. Currently, Ilhéus is known for being one of the most visited tourist destinations in the State of Bahia. Its gentle and hospitable population is an additional attraction for tourists in search of natural, cultural and historical beauty.
